Government Relations Council

The Government Relations Council guides Forward Janesville's actions on the community issues and pressing policy matters that affect our members

What is the Government Relations Council?
Forward Janesville’s Government Relations Council (GRC) is a group of Forward Janesville (FJI) members who guide the organization's priorities on pressing community issues and policy matters affecting our members. The GRC (and eventually the FJI Board of Directors) must approve each policy position the organization takes. Additionally, the council drafts and approves FJI's annual Policy Priority Areas and aids in planning FJI-sponsored policy events and visits to local, state, and federal elected officials.

How does this benefit me and my business?
Each and every one of us must operate within Wisconsin's business, tax and regulatory climates. The GRC and FJI staff strive to make our business climate friendlier through the advancement of a pro-business agenda at City Hall, at the Rock County Courthouse, at the Wisconsin State Capitol, and in Washington, DC. The issues GRC considers run the gamut and are united by their impact on local businesses and the local business climate.

Who should join?
FJI members with an interest in local government and a desire to learn more about it should consider joining GRC. This is a great committee for those looking to make a difference in the organization, its future, and the community.

When does the group meet?
GRC holds monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month. It also occasionally takes on various tasks and projects between meetings. The nature of GRC’s work is often progressive in that issues are tracked for months - sometimes years - at a time. Therefore, it’s suggested that members attend meetings regularly to stay up to speed.

How can I join the GRC?
Interested FJI members should complete a GRC membership application and submit it to Claire Gray. GRC will consider any completed applications at its next regular GRC meeting. An affirmative vote of two-thirds vote of council members is required for admission to the council.

GRC’s 2024 Policy Priority Areas
Forward Janesville and the Government Relations Council will place intentional and sustained focus on the following issues in 2024 while remaining nimble in order to respond to additional opportunities and challenges for our community.

Following a vote of support from our Government Relations Council and the Forward Janesville Board of Directors, Forward Janesville supported the operational and capital referendum questions posed by the School District of Janesville and the School District of Milton on the November 5, 2024 ballot and were thrilled that all three passed.
