Forward Janesville’s Government Relations Council (GRC) finalized its 2025-26 Policy Priority Areas. GRC will place intentional and sustained focus on these issues during its monthly meetings and through its work groups.
Centennial Park
Centennial Park is the site of the former General Motors (GM) plant and the Janesville Automotive Transport Company (JATCO). At ~250 acres, this is a major economic development site. The Centennial Park Work Group is one of many partners around the table and will lean in where necessary.
Housing Development
Housing is a top challenge to Janesville’s sustainable growth. Our community needs more residential units at all levels of affordability to retain and attract workforce. The Government
Relations Council supports policies and community activities that will increase housing starts in 2025.
Child Care
Access to and availability of quality, budget-friendly child care impacts local labor force participation and employer competitiveness. Our Child Care Work Group is developing tools and
resources to support community-based solves.
Workforce Diversification
Strong economies have a diversified industry base with opportunities for workers to advance. The Government Relations Council is exploring how our local economy can offer more varied
employment options, from entry level to professional to executive.
Civic Engagement
Decisions made by the Janesville City Council, Janesville School Board and the Rock County Board of Supervisors can affect business in a big way. The Government Relations Council plays an educational role when it comes to understanding local government.
Zoning
Zoning can greatly impact a community’s growth and development. The Zoning Work Group is supporting the City of Janesville’s efforts to update its Zoning Code & Subdivision Ordinance to ensure it is responsive to current and future community needs.
